WA 4wd Association Story

QUAD-DRIVE WA (Inc) 4WD CLUB

Who are we:

The Quad-Drive 4x4 Club is based in Noranda.  The club caters for all types of vehicles from stock through to fully modified vehicles.  Our club members range in ages from 18 through to 60 so there is a good blend of people at most events. Being family friendly, we encourage members to bring their kids along on trips so they too can learn more about 4 wheeling and camping.

Trips:

We try to run a trip every couple of weeks ranging from day trips to weekend trips and a couple times a year we will run a four or more day long trip.   To keep in the spirit of 4 wheeling & keen competition, we also attend a number of off road sporting events throughout the year as spectators to cheer on members who are competing.

Meetings:

The club has General meetings on the 1ST WEDNESDAY OF EACH MONTH AT 7.30pm. Where: Morley/Noranda Recreation Centre - The centre is located at the rear of the Noranda Palms Shopping complex, entry via Mcgilvaray Avenue or Benara Road. We sometimes use different meeting rooms so if you don't see someone wearing a Quad-drive shirt, just ask the bar staff where Quad-drive are having their meeting.

Contact:

Quaddrive have their own web site for making contact with the committee.  We also publish many of our photos and future events.  As the web site is still under construction, we apologise if the latest information is not currently posted.  Web site name: Quad-drive.org

Wandering Farm—Photo Shoot

Friday 9th, Saturday 10th & Sunday 11th October

Prepared by: Dennis Pittard

Hi all,

The trip was a great success, we all arise from a not so quiet night nice and early and

eager to get into it. Uncle Steve, Cal, Lurch and I wandered over from Dereck’s new joint

and started digging out the wombat holes to make our life much harder..... and it did!! It

all started with the 4 of us cleaning out the wombat holes and as Steve and Lurch were

busy digging Cal and I dug the mother of all holes. Trent then rocked up tired as all hell

and grabbed a shovel to enjoy the fun, we then decided to try them out!!! Only being

there for short of an hour Steve rolled out the big 80 and got through 1, 2, 3 holes then

click click click ‘bang’ our first CV. Then Trent came through and did them well, then

Callan tried them and got himself jammed in that mother of a hole that we dug earlier and

yep there was that clicking noise but no bang so that’s 2 CV's in an hour gone………

Trent had another go and them gremlins came back and the clicking came back, so this is

3 CV's in less then 3 hours. Steve parked up and removed the damaged CV and got the

80 going again and then pssshhh he lost a front right tyre which rolled off the rim. Cal,

Lurch and I went up to grab a large machine tyre to drive over, I rode on the tyre as Cal

dragged it down the hill.

Allan then rocked up with Jeep in hand and had a quick play before the engine wouldn’t

run. Then the rest rocked up Danny & Jacinta, Mark and his son, Collin and family, Dave

& Pauline and Dereck, so we’re all here having a good old time making a mess of

everything and then Graham from Eco Muse turns up in his Shorty to take happy snappy’s

of us all.

The fun starts as I started driving the wombat holes then psssshhhh we started loosing

tyres, I lost a front right tyre so that’s now at 3 CV's stuffed and 2 tyres gone. I piled in

to Cal’s bus and we drove over to see that Dereck had rolled one as well, same again front

right. As Dereck and Steve repaired Dereck’s 80, Cal and I repaired mine. Danny then

came through the 600m bog hole with Colin behind, Trent behind him and then Col’s

electrics got wet and the engine shut off and Callan had to pull him out. Anyway we got

all the tyres repaired and as I pushed my reinflated 35 over to where my car was, Pauline

then zipped through the paddock and then ‘BANG’ right hand front tyre, there’s another

one gone so now this is 4 tyres and 3 CV's. In amongst all that ‘bang’ Gavan swiftly rolled

one as well, now we’re at 5 tyres and 3 CV's. We then we all gathered up for a group

photo.

Al's Jeep was getting some attention by Cal and Danny with me on the jumper leads then

"Brumm" the jeeps running again!!! Then we see this 3WD 80 tying to get through the big

bog hole, nope you need a 4WD Steve not a 3WD!! And before too long the Jeeps going

through the big bog hole in the middle of the paddock making it look easy, naturally I

then had a go and got through it just…..

We capped off the day when we all had a bite to eat and some of Marie's lovely cookies,

the day trippers packed up and slowly left as we set up and removed the remainder of

Steve’s Cv's and Callan's newly found broken one.

Wandering Farm—Photo Shoot

Continued……

Then time for ‘who’s got the faster 4x4’ grudge between Callan and I began, we zipped

over to the Drag Strip on the other side of the creek and settled it by having a race with

Dave calling the start and Steve, Gav and Lurch heard over the radio "Ready, 3, 2, 1,

Go!". From the distance they saw plumes of black smoke roaring out of our tail pipes and

resulted in me winning by half a car length, and then it turned into Nissan Vs Toyota.

Naturally we all had a go at racing each other as Dave in the new Hunge rocked up

against me, then "Ready, 3, 2, 1, Go!" Dave cheated and launched on 1 not Go! and I

got beat by a mile, Al and Dave had a go as Dave’s car was sneaky being a constant beat.

Al's rocket rod Jeep and Al said I’ll give you another go in 4x4 "Ready, 3, 2, 1, Go!" and Al

only lost by a car length, ahh that’s much better! Then Gav had a go at Dave and Dave

won that, then Steve and I and then Lurch and I had a go then they went up to the wash

bay were that bloody 2WD 80 was bogged.

Cal and I had a last play in the wombat holes as my cars radiator was full of mud and

started over heating, so we went up to the wash bay where the hunge recovered the 2WD

80 and we all had a wash. It was Lurch's turn for a wash and it sunk into the ground as

he was washing it - luckily he drove it out!!

That night we all sat around the camp fire half asleep, Dereck and Amanda invited us in to

their nice new massive house and we all had a feed on Al and Marie's beer stuffed chicken

and a mix of all the food we had leftover and cooked up. We then stumbled back out to

the fire, as every one was just so knackered we all went to Bed.

Big Congrats to Kelly for putting up with Rachael's yabber on the way down and winning

the "Show and Shine" - well done Kelly you deserved it, and a well done for Steve coming

second.

Thanks Graham for taking photos of us, keep up the good work mate!!

All in all it was a hell of a day if you weren't there sorry but you missed out on some good

shenanigans

Thanks for a great weekend guys!

Julimar Day Trip

Saturday 24th October

Prepared by: Sammy Lowe

The morning of the Julimar trip dawned cool and sunny. I awoke to the beautiful noise of

someone throwing rocks at my window (Callan), because some drunken bum had locked himself

out of the house the night before.

After a lot of disorganised car packing and a slow trip to Gingers due to bad traffic on the Great

Northern Hwy, we arrived to greet Gavin, Gavin’s brother Craig (Toyota Hilux) and the Potts’s

(along with Dave’s dad Le). When I say we, I mean Dennis and I stopped to greet the rest of

the club, all Callan was greeting was a dirty big bacon and egg burger swimming in grease.

Wonder why…

We got on the road after stocking up with the essential red bull, I then I got behind the wheel of

Dad’s 80 series. After some great scenery through the Chittering valley and some choice

words from me about the steering in the 80, to some I would have appeared seemingly drunk

driving (due to strong winds, 37’s and no sway bars is not a good combo to look sober on the

road), we arrived at the turnoff for Julimar.

Gavan started off the day with a good dunk in a dam which resulted in some hairy driving by

Callan to get to a good recovery point, and also resulted in one Waeco fridge sporting an error

code. Already fine number one and only 10 minutes off the main road.

With everyone else pleasantly declining a similar dunking, we continued down the track. I

soon had to stop to the sight of Gavan, Callan and Craig disappearing off into the bushes together…

and people make comments about girls needing to go to the toilet together. I soon

realised that they had stopped to check out a creek bed and then I got promptly kicked out of

the driver’s seat by Dennis who had mud lust.

The sworn Maverick enthusiast then proceeded to get the poor Land cruiser very bogged in the

thickest, blackest, suckiest mud that I have seen in a long time. Luckily Pottsy was there with

his new lifted 100 series and came to our rescue. He pulled the 80 out till there was only about

an inch of mud covering each tyre, but alas the mud stickiness still proved too much and Dave

had to assist once again to get the 80 out of the evil muck!

After the creek incident the convoy resumed along a track that started as two wheel ruts but

soon turned into a motorcycle trail with one wheel rut. Gavan, ever the adventurer decided to

push on and soon we were zigg-zagging all over the country side trying to avoid the trees and

black boys that were right next to the track. (Environmental note: no wildlife or small children

were harmed during this process)

The track eventually led to a gazetted road / track that I wouldn’t want to take my cute little corolla

up but was a doddle in the 80 series. After a relaxing time driving the tracks, we stopped

in a clearing for lunch. Then we headed out to Toodyay, to have a beer (or vodka) at the local

pub and part ways.

Thanks for a good trip to all.
